~ 1971 ~

Famous For: Perfecting the Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza recipe.

Founded By: Lou Malnati and his wife Jean opened the first Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria in Lincolnwood, Illinois on March 17th, 1971.

Fun Foodie Facts:

  • Deep dish was created in the 40’s when times were tough and people needed an affordable yet substantial meal.
  • Invented at Pizzeria Uno, where Lou Malnati and his father, Rudy Malnati, worked in the kitchen.
  • On an average large deep dish pizza at Lou Malnati’s, they put about a ½ pound of cheese! Cheese lovers rejoice.
  • Chicago is the only city in North America where sausage pizza outsells pepperoni pizza.

Our Recos:

Try the Lou Malnati’s salad if you’re looking for a lighter dish. It’s a Chicago favorite (includes romaine lettuce, tomatoes, black olives, mushrooms, salami bits and gorgonzola cheese with their Sweet Vinaigrette and Romano cheese.)
