When visiting Chicago there are leading restaurants that are “must visits” and this tour is the only one that visits them all. Lou Malnatis (Chicago-style deep dish), Al’s Beef (Italian Beef Sandwich), Garrett Popcorn (Chicago-style Popcorn), and Portillo’s (Chicago-style Hot Dog). Plus, Rick Bayless is quite possibly our city’s most beloved chef and guests (on Tuesday-Saturday tours) will have the unique opportunity to taste his contemporary take on churros. Visiting on Sundays? Enjoy a unique donut from Firecakes, a renowned donut shop loved by locals.
Considered the oldest family name in Chicago pizza, Lou Malnati's iconic Chicago-Style Deep Dish pizza is regarded as the best in the city. Taste it for yourself!
Savor the popcorn recipes that were born out of a family competition and carried over from the Garrett's Milwaukee home to their first Chicago shop in 1949.
The history of Al’s #1 Italian Beef Restaurants dates back to 1938. Al's founder Chris Pacelli, started a neighborhood beef stand in Chicago’s “Little Italy” neighborhood.
The famed Portillo’s was founded in 1963 by Dick Portillo. After returning from serving in the Marines, Dick (with help from his brother Frank) opened a humble hot dog stand.
Rick and Deann Bayless have been well-known and loved names in the Chicago restaurant scene since 1987. They opened this contemporary expression of Mexico’s beloved street food.
One of Chicago's favorite donut shops, Chef and Dough Master, Jonathan Fox, opened this old fashioned style sweet shop with heirloom recipes.

We provide water for you at many of the tasting locations. However, we always recommend that guests bring their own refillable water bottle to help prevent waste. Alcohol is not provided on the Best In Chow experience, however at the final tasting location (The Cambria Hotel) guests are provided with an opportunity to add-on a Champagne Bellini and enjoy VIP access to the private rooftop bar which is only open for Chicago Food Planet guests.
We ask that you please wait to shop until after the experience so that we can stay on our food-tasting schedule and continue with the informative narrative and food tastings in a timely manner. We ask you allow time at the end of the experience to return to your favorite locations and/or stores. The experiences are on a schedule to arrive at each tasting location so its important to stay on schedule so the food is freshly prepared for the participants.
We do offer Neighborhood Food Experiences all year-round. However, due to Chicago’s feisty winters, we offer short experiences during the winter and longer experiences in the summer. Our winter experiences are both shorter in distance covered (less than .4 miles) and also in duration (2 hours in length). The World’s Fare is our only experience that runs year-round. The Classic, 3-1-Chew, Chinatown Adventure and Best In Chow all run March-November while Winter Delights runs November to March. Click on our Tour Calendar to see the updated list of events.
